When the 2026 Toronto-area Michelin Guide was unveiled in late September, the headline was what did not happen: no new restaurants earned a star. But that is only half the story, because the guide still welcomed a swath of newcomers.
17 restaurants joined the guide for the first time, split between the Recommended and Bib Gourmand categories. Among the new Recommended names are Bar Allegro, Bar Ardo, Bar Eugenie, Liliana, 156 OneFiveSix, Pho Ngoc Yen, PUNCH and Takja. On the Bib Gourmand side, which celebrates great food at a great value, Toronto’s Antylia, Golden Horseshoe Barbecue and The Lunch Lady made the list.
The mix is a snapshot of the city’s current appetite. There are intimate bars, a pho spot, a barbecue joint and a Vietnamese noodle destination alongside more formal dining rooms. For diners, the Bib Gourmand list is arguably the most useful, because it points to places where a great meal does not require a splurge.
A year without new stars might sound disappointing, but it also reflects consistency at the top. For restaurants that earn a place in the guide, even a Recommended listing can bring a noticeable bump in bookings and name recognition.
If you have been looking for a dining list that goes beyond the usual suspects, this is a good place to start.
