After years of anticipation and more than a few envious glances at Instagram posts from Los Angeles, Toronto finally has its very own Eggslut — and the city has not been quiet about it. Canada’s first location of the internationally acclaimed breakfast concept opened on April 30, and the reception has been exactly as dramatic as you’d expect.
Founded as a Los Angeles food truck in 2011 by Alvin Cailan, Eggslut built a devoted global fanbase through its unapologetically indulgent takes on egg-based dishes. The concept expanded internationally over the years, with outposts in London, Dubai and Tokyo, but Canada was notably absent from the map — until now.
The Toronto location brings the full Eggslut experience to the city: the famous Slut (a coddled egg on a soft potato purée, poached in a glass jar and served with grilled baguette), the Fairfax sandwich, and the full rotation of egg-forward creations that made the chain a cultural phenomenon. For Toronto brunch enthusiasts who’ve been hearing about these dishes for over a decade, finally being able to try them without a plane ticket is nothing short of a milestone.
Cheeky advertising around the city — including signs declaring “there’s a new egg slut in town” — helped build anticipation in the weeks leading up to opening day. The marketing worked. Lines formed early, social media exploded, and Toronto’s food community collectively lost its mind in the best possible way.
This is one of those openings that comes along once in a while and genuinely shifts the city’s dining conversation. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the moment.
Eggslut Toronto is open now. Do yourself a favour and get there soon — because by the time summer hits, that line is only going to get longer.
