When the romance between Elmwood Bar founders Allen Meredith and Mallory Bey was first blooming, regular road trips to Buffalo became a tradition. Years later, after moving from Little Portugal to Etobicoke with their toddler, the couple realized their new neighbourhood had plenty of fine dining and takeout — but nowhere for a casual snack and a pint. So they built one themselves.
The Elmwood, named for Buffalo’s Elmwood Village neighbourhood, leans hard into the city’s wing culture: four to five house sauce flavours developed with the help of chef friends and a prominent Buffalo restaurateur, plus Montreal-style steamed hot dogs sourced from authentic Quebec buns the pair searched high and low to track down. The drink menu keeps things casual, with a solid rotation of craft and imported beer, including the house Allentown lager, etched with a cheeky chicken wing on the fill line.
