A Beloved Markham Bakery Finally Brought Its Not-Too-Sweet Cakes Downtown

I Am A Cake has spent over a year building a devoted following in Markham on the strength of a simple pitch: desserts that are genuinely “not too sweet.” Now, the Korean dessert cafe has landed its second location, in a butter-yellow building in Moss Park.

Owned and operated by pastry chef Amy Seo, the cafe specializes in madeleines, matcha drinks, and elegantly composed cakes — the Victoria cake, layered poundcake held together with tart raspberry jam and topped with sugary buttercream, is among the most popular. Seo says the concept grew out of a simple desire to make people smile, with the brand’s name chosen specifically to convey that message: take on the identity of a cake, and you become a symbol of joy. Unlike the Markham original, which is takeout-only, the new Moss Park location offers a proper seating area to enjoy the pastries on-site.
