Toronto’s latest food fixation isn’t even available to try yet, and people are already lining up online for a shot at it. The Eighth Son, a new venture from the team behind Dundas West pizzeria The Fourth Man in the Fire, serves exactly one thing: cinnamon buns the size of a human head, baked in pie pans and easily big enough to feed four people.
The catch is part of the appeal. There’s no walk-in ordering — instead, hopeful customers join an online waitlist and wait for an email granting them the chance to order. From there, it takes a full three days to actually make the bun, meaning the payoff is as much about anticipation as it is about the pastry itself. Owner Shant Mardirosian tells blogTO the idea came from noticing a “huge trend” around cinnamon rolls lately, and wanting to push the format further into something more fun and over the top than what’s already out there.
