A Montreal institution has officially crossed provincial lines. Pizza Spano — despite the name, an equal mix of Greek dishes, diner staples, and pizza — has been a fixture in Dollard-Des Ormeaux for more than four decades, and as of Monday, March 16, the family-run restaurant has landed its first Toronto location in the Castlefield Design District.
Rebranded as Spano’s Diner for its Toronto debut, the new location leans into the classic diner aesthetic — glossy white subway tiles, red accents, and a checkerboard-emblazoned menu — while keeping the food largely unchanged from its Montreal roots. That means souvlaki, sub sandwiches, Spano’s famous pizzas (available from personal to extra-large), and, for anyone craving a taste of Montreal specifically, a hefty smoked meat sandwich.
For Torontonians who’ve made the trip to Montreal specifically to visit spots like this, having a genuine, family-run outpost right in the city is a meaningful addition — no train ticket required.
Craving a taste of Montreal without leaving the city? Spano’s Diner is open now in the Castlefield Design District.
