After 13 Years on Ossington, La Cubana Is Closing Its Last Toronto Location

Toronto is saying goodbye to one of its most beloved Cuban restaurants. La Cubana, the pioneering Ossington Avenue spot that introduced thousands of Torontonians to Cuban sandwiches, ropa vieja, and the joy of a properly made mojito, will close its last brick-and-mortar location on June 28.

The restaurant’s history runs deeper than most. Siblings Pablo and Corinna Mozo operated on Ossington for nearly two decades — six years before La Cubana as Delux, and then 13 years under the Cuban banner that made them famous. The Roncesvalles location closed first, scooped up quickly by Proper; now the Ossington outpost follows.

For the Ossington strip and for Toronto’s dining culture broadly, the closure marks a real loss. La Cubana wasn’t just good food — it was a neighbourhood anchor, a place that reflected the warm, convivial spirit of its owners and helped define the Ossington dining experience during the street’s golden era.

Corinna and Pablo shared a heartfelt message with their community, and the response has been equally warm. Sometimes a restaurant becomes more than the sum of its dishes, and La Cubana always was.
