Toronto’s restaurant community has a long tradition of using its platforms for good, and Casa Portuguesa in the Castlefield Design District is embodying that spirit in a particularly moving way. The restaurant \u2014 best known for its Portuguese hot table featuring piri piri chicken and roasted fish \u2014 is hosting a series of Fado nights this spring, with all proceeds going toward helping a local child with a rare genetic disorder.<\/p>\n

Lucas is an Ontario child whose condition severely limits his mobility. The disorder is so rare that there is almost no documented information about how it progresses or whether it can be treated \u2014 making the medical research to understand and potentially address it both urgent and expensive. Lucas’s mother, Sophia Azevedo, launched a GoFundMe to help cover the medical and research costs, and Casa Portuguesa’s team stepped up in the most fitting way they knew: through the universal language of food, music and community.<\/p>

Fado \u2014 the hauntingly beautiful traditional Portuguese music form \u2014 is the perfect vehicle for an evening of this kind. The genre carries deep emotion in every note, and paired with Casa Portuguesa’s authentic menu, the Fado nights offer an experience that is both genuinely entertaining and genuinely meaningful.<\/p>\n

The events are running on select Sundays through May. Tickets for the evening dinner include the full Fado performance alongside the restaurant’s celebrated menu. For those who can’t attend but want to contribute, $40 No-Show tickets are available, with proceeds donated directly to the Let’s Cure Lucas campaign.<\/p>
