7 Nightclubs We Lost During The Pandemic

It was difficult to keep up with the hospitality closures in the past 12 months with most of them taking place in the restaurant industry. Despite stopgap measures like government relief and new takeout and delivery offerings, several nightclubs closed their doors for good during the pandemic.

The trend was Canada-wide. On December 16, Restaurants Canada said that since March 2020, 10,000 restaurants have closed across Canada. In Ontario alone, the sector has lost 19 per cent of jobs and 25 per cent in revenue since February, the industry group said.

The city’s culture is lacklustre without its nightlife; those that have been lost will be sorely missed. Here is a list of nightclubs that have closed in the Greater Toronto Area so far during COVID-19.

  1. Luxy *UPDATE

A representative from Luxy (Jigga from Nightcrawlers Ent.) reached out and said they will 100% re-open. So looks like the King Of Clubs will be returning!

2. Ivy Social Club

3. Blue Suede Sues

4. Crocodile Rock

5. Goldie

6. For Your Eyes Only

7. CUBE

The building that housed nightclub Cube and the sprawling beer garden up top is up for lease.

One of Toronto’s most famed nightclub entrances—a narrow door on Queen West tucked between a Lush and a Bell Store— will eventually lead to something new after nearly nine years of ushering party-goers into the thumping walls of Cube.

The property at 314 Queen St. West has been up for lease under international property company Savills, available immediately for $150,000 per year, plus utilities.

Not all of these were covid closure related. Some were slated to close due to condo construction. We’re just bringing you up to speed as to what will be different once we’re allowed to party again.

Several more big names will be announcing their closures once nightclubs are allowed to open again. We’ve been asked not to disclose them beforehand for reasons we won’t mention in this article. Stay tuned, 2 are going to make you cry.
